Convert PDF to RTF
Turn a PDF into an RTF file that any word processor can open and edit.
How it works
- Drag and drop your PDF file below.
- Click Convert to download as an RTF file.
What this tool does to your file
The PDF’s text is extracted and written to a Rich Text Format file, which opens in every word processor on every platform without anything having to be installed. As with the Word conversion, this carries the wording rather than the design: a PDF records painted glyphs, not the fact that something was a table or a caption, so multi-column layouts, text boxes and tables arrive as ordinary paragraphs in reading order. Images are not included. A scanned PDF has no text layer to extract and will come back effectively empty. RTF is the right target when the file has to be readable by an old or unusual word processor — it is a plain-text format that has been stable for decades — and the wrong one when you need the pages to look as they did.
What happens to your files
- No account needed — Every tool works as a guest. Signing in raises the limits and keeps your files together, but nothing asks you to register before you get a result.
- It runs in your browser — There is nothing to install and nothing to keep up to date. Files travel to our servers over an encrypted connection, and come back the same way.
- Deleted means deleted — When you delete a file, it is erased from our storage straight away, with no hidden copies or backups. Uploads and results are deleted five minutes after you download your result: always as a guest, and by default with an account.
- Size limits, stated up front — Up to 10 MB per file as a guest, and up to 25 MB signed in. You see the limit before you upload, not after.
