Convert PDF to ODT
Turn a PDF into an OpenDocument Text (.odt) file, so its text can be edited in LibreOffice, OpenOffice or any word processor.
How it works
- Drag and drop your PDF file below.
- Click Convert to download as an ODT file.
What this tool does to your file
The PDF’s text is extracted into an OpenDocument Text file, the native format of LibreOffice and OpenOffice, which Word also opens. Like the other text conversions here it recovers the wording, not the layout: a PDF stores where glyphs were drawn rather than what role they played, so headings, columns, tables and text boxes all arrive as plain paragraphs in reading order. Images are not carried over, and no fonts are embedded — your word processor substitutes its own. A scanned PDF contains no text layer, so it produces an empty document rather than an error. Choose this over the Word conversion when the result is going into LibreOffice anyway and you would rather not pass it through a Microsoft format on the way.
What happens to your files
- No account needed — Every tool works as a guest. Signing in raises the limits and keeps your files together, but nothing asks you to register before you get a result.
- It runs in your browser — There is nothing to install and nothing to keep up to date. Files travel to our servers over an encrypted connection, and come back the same way.
- Deleted means deleted — When you delete a file, it is erased from our storage straight away, with no hidden copies or backups. Uploads and results are deleted five minutes after you download your result: always as a guest, and by default with an account.
- Size limits, stated up front — Up to 10 MB per file as a guest, and up to 25 MB signed in. You see the limit before you upload, not after.
