What this tool does to your file

An Apple Numbers spreadsheet’s contents are read and written to a PDF anyone can open, including people with no Apple device. It carries the values rather than the design: table styling, column widths and the sheet’s layout are not reproduced, and no fonts are embedded, so characters outside Latin-1 become question marks. Formulas appear as their last calculated result. One quirk of this format is worth knowing about: Apple never registered a media type for .numbers, so a browser on Windows or Linux has no idea what the file is and reports it as a generic zip or as nothing at all — the upload declares the correct type on your behalf. A Numbers file is a compressed package, so what bounds it is how far it expands while being read, capped at 200 MB, not its size on disk.
